Audicus just reached an amazing milestone—we’ve hit 3,000 hearing aid donations! Did you know Audicus has partnered with Hearing Charities of America (HCOA) since 2015 in order to collect and send hearing aids to low-income people who need them. Last year we donated over 2,000 hearing aids and now we’ve hit another goal. We couldn’t have done it without your help!
Hearing aid donations: Audicus + HCOA
It’s always been part of our mission here at Audicus to give back to the hearing loss community. Our main goal is to make hearing accessible to everyone and partnering with HCOA’s Hearing Aid Project was the best way for us to do that.
Our role in this partnership is to publicize our hearing aid donations and collect them from the generous people who donate them. Audicus packs each donated hearing aid safely and ships them out to HCOA, who work with local audiologists to repair and fit the donated hearing aids to the applicants.
The power of hearing aid donations
If you’ve ever searched for hearing aids yourself, you know they don’t come cheap. Hearing loss can be extremely harmful to both physical and mental health, and there are many people in the US and around the world who simply cannot afford hearing aids on their own.
The Hearing Aid Project chronicles many heartwarming stories about how strong an impact a donated hearing aid can make: Take the story of Nathaniel Jackson, who was born with undiagnosed and undiscovered hearing loss. Growing up, he was often punished for being disobedient and was picked on by his peers. He also lost his sight as an adult, so life was growing increasingly isolated. One day, his son connected him with the Hearing Aid Project, and for the first time Nathaniel can now hear the voices of his kids!
Wanda Joyce Brock, who was fitted for free hearing aids in May of 2017, sums up what’s it is like being able to hear again: ““It is so nice to be a part of the hearing world again!” Wanda says. “I never realized how much hearing impacts your life. I thought I could just get by with having everyone repeat themselves, but it became so tiring. Now, my job relationships have improved and music is a sweet sound again!”
