Q: What is your role at Audicus, and how did your career path lead you here?
Before I joined Audicus, I worked retail and didn’t love it. When I started looking for my next role, it was recommended I look for start ups through Angel list. I’m a very mission-motivated person, and finding a company with a true mission was super important to me.
I joined Audicus in the fall of 2018, and when I joined there were only 18 of us. I was on the B2C Customer Experience team. There was only myself and one other teammate. Over time we helped the CX team get up and running, and now the team has grown to over 10 people.
I’ve now pivoted over to the B2B team as the Onboarding Manager. In my current role I guide our new partners through their first few months. Many of our partners come to us because they are looking for an alternative to the traditional audiology route. Partners can spend months waiting for appointments, then additional months for test results and for hearing aids which creates logistical nightmares. Instead, with us we provide the equipment for staff to test patients on site, provide comprehensive onboarding training (typically a 3-month process) and ongoing support with the Account Management team.
Q: How do you start your day?
I'm married to someone who follows the same routine every single day. Meanwhile, my day always starts differently. I have two very high-energy dogs, so my day usually kicks off by getting them outside. We head to the park, which is especially nice when the weather’s good. After that, I shower and typically log in a bit early to get a head start on the day and see what’s on my plate. Making sure the dogs are taken care of first thing in the morning is always a priority. We have a pit mix, and we’re not sure about the other – we’ll be giving a DNA test!
Q: What advice would you give someone who wants to start a career in CX or B2B?
I recommend being curious more than anything – have a sense of curiosity, and look for solutions. Be solution-focused, but also be creative. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and try new things.
If you’re someone who needs more structure or people tell you want to do - corporate America is best. If you’re someone who enjoys doing things on your own and creating new things, being in a start-up is best. You’ll always have the ability to look for improvements that can be made into processes.
Be open minded to things you don’t know, and try things that might not work. If they don’t work, get creative and create something new.
Q: What’s your favorite part of your job or something you’re really proud of accomplishing here?
A few things.
I’m really proud of how many people we can help so quickly. What I love about B2B is that I can help multiple people very quickly. Reaching more people is a fun part of the job. Something I’m excited about is continuing to make new updates to our hearing test. For our partnership with corrections, we cut down a long hearing test to 15 minutes. Now those facilities can test patients back to back.
I also recently trained over 450 sites on our new hearing test. I worked with over 1,000 people these last couple weeks which is really exciting for me. I try to provide this information as succinctly as possible. I think there’s a lot of information in the hearing aid industry that’s nuanced and has a lot of details. One of my favorite things to do is finding a way to make it easy for people and showing them how simple it is, especially when they do the traditional audiology route and it hasn’t been working. I find enjoyment in being able to create things that are simple and easy to use, where I can help as many people as possible.
Q: What are some of your favorite books, movies, or shows?
I am currently going through the 100 best Murder Mysteries book list from Time Magazine. It’s 100 very good books done in order from oldest to newest. Right now I’m cherry picking my way down the list and it’s been fun. I love audiobooks as well, but my system is I’ll listen to one audiobook then skip to an actual book, and keep going.
I like to cross stitch as well. I just finished making a baby blanket for my nephew. It was a long process, and now I’m doing a Harry Potter themed cross stitch.
Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Any hobbies or passion projects?
We love to explore the city. This time of year is when food festivals start to pop up, and we always want to visit a bunch of those. I take care of my children, go to the park, and actually went to a puppy's birthday party recently.
Q: Fun fact?
I have a 400-day Duolingo Spanish streak and counting!
